Reasons to be cheerful

Another successful exhibition under our belt, well done everyone involved. We had a goodly number of people attending the exhibition, with many leaving lovely comments in our visitors book. Thank you to all our visitors and to all those who helped in one way or another. Our hope is to put on another exhibition sometime early next year.

Keep visiting this blog for further information about our next exhibition.

Guest Artist

Carol Pask

After rejecting Art College at 18 in favour of work, or more importantly a wage packet, my artistic journey has been both scenic and extended. At the age of forty something I found myself studying Art and Design at Suffolk College, where I was very quickly drawn back to ceramics (having dabbled in the past). I realised quite early on that glazed ceramics had no appeal for me and that the simplicity and uncertainty of using smoke to create the pattern on the ceramic surface was far more exciting. I use mainly raku and smoke firing technique to achieve this. Most pieces are either coil or slab built depending on the final shape required and after biscuit firing I then satisfy my pyromaniac tendencies by firing again in my outdoor kilns where the work is taken to around 900 degrees centigrade and then cooled very quickly in sawdust or shavings, the smoke created at this stage is the integral part of creating surface patterns.
